Crowns and Bridges
Dental Crowns and Bridges are part of Restorative Dentistry which aims at replacing or restoring missing or damaged teeth. The objective of restorative dentistry is to bring back your natural look and smile and safeguard you against future oral and dental health problems.
Which branch do you want to visit?
If you have a problem tooth that is broken or too large to fill, a crown can restore the foundations and appearance of the tooth. A crown is custom made by the Dentist to fit neatly over the original tooth. Were large decay or fillings have broken a tooth, a crown will promote strength. If you have more than one tooth missing, bridging may be required to fill the area.
Our Dentists may recommend a Crown to:
Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth to close gaps between surrounding teeth and restore natural look and function of the teeth. When a tooth is lost and a gap is created, the surrounding teeth can move and tilt which can cause dental and oral issues like misaligned biting and gum disease.
The term ‘Bridge’ is used because it is attached to surrounding teeth to bridge the gap in between those teeth. The surrounding teeth — known as abutments — are utilised as anchors to which the bridge is attached. Often, crown are attached to the abutments and replacement teeth — known as pontics — are attached to the crowns.
Bridges are available in a choice of materials. Our dentists can assist you in choosing the right bridge type depending on the location, function and aesthetic of the missing tooth.
Crown and Bridging Procedure
The existing tooth may undergo an X-ray to assess any impairment before treatment. Your dentist will then re-shape the existing tooth in preparation for the new crown. A mould is then taken of the original tooth after it is shaped. The crown will take up to one or two weeks before it is ready, so a temporary crown will be affixed to the tooth before the final crown is fitted.
